English Language Arts
About the English Language Arts Department
A successful learner requires the development of a number of skills associated with language arts. The English Language Arts curriculum has four major strands: Reading, Writing, Speaking & Listening and Language. ELA teachers provide students with a variety of learning experiences which help to develop and showcase each student’s language skills.
The students learn to develop an understanding of key ideas and details in a variety of types of literature. They delve into the craft and structure of the text they read and discuss. They learn to analyze and evaluate the text they read. The ELA teachers ensure that their students read a variety of materials including fiction, informational texts, poems, play excerpts, and more. All students grow as readers, writers, and speakers during their education here at Manteo Middle School.
